Buy one, give one

Mintnib exists to make good science practice reachable for every student, including those who couldn't otherwise cover the cost. Buy one, give one is part of that.

When you buy Mintnib Pro on our website, you fund Pro for a student who couldn't otherwise cover the cost.

Pro given free is Mintnib Pro in full until the student's test, the same as Pro you buy: today worth £101.00 for the January 2027 sitting.

That figure was worked out from the price on 22 October 2026.

Pro given free to 1 student since 1 October 2026. Figure as of 22 October 2026.

1 issued, 1 redeemed, as of 2026-10-22. Counted from our records once a day.

Who the free places go to

Free passes go to individual students: those on a bursary we fund, and students nominated by a teacher at a UK state school.

We issue the codes ourselves; no money goes to any school or charity, and we are not a charity. Mintnib is a business.

The scheme's written terms, dated, with every version kept.

How a teacher asks

A teacher or widening participation officer at a UK state-funded school or college asks on the Mintnib Pro page: the school's name, a work email, and how many are wanted. Nothing about any student is asked for, and no student has to declare anything. Up to five codes a request are issued at once; a larger request is checked by hand.

The codes go to the work email that asked for them, and the teacher hands them to the students they choose. If the pool is empty the teacher is told so: "There are no free places in the pool at the moment. Your request is kept for 30 days, and the codes are sent by email once new purchases come in." Those requests are then filled automatically as purchases refill the pool.

Ask for free places for your students

If a student is on a bursary

A student on free school meals, the 16 to 19 Bursary or the Education Maintenance Allowance can ask directly, and a free place is granted even when the pool is empty. The route is on the Mintnib Pro page.

How to ask

What the number counts

It counts free places students have opened with a teacher's code, or been granted on a bursary. It does not count free places that have been paid for and not yet asked for, so it can only understate what has been funded. No student is named and no school is named. It is written into this page when the page is built, which is why it carries a date: this site runs no script, so there is nothing here fetching a live figure.
